Skin Rescue
The balm you reach for when your skin is acting up. A concentrated botanical salve for itchy, irritated, reactive, fungal-prone, and blemish-prone skin, made for targeted spots rather than all-over moisture.
Who it's for
For the moments when skin needs more than moisture. When something flares up and you want a single, capable balm to reach for, Skin Rescue is that balm. It's the more intensive counterpart to a gentle everyday moisturizer, built for stubborn, localized concerns.
Made for a long list of everyday skin troubles: itchy or irritated patches, skin reacting to contact irritants (including after contact with certain metals), the itch after bug bites, red or dry patches, chafed or compromised-feeling skin, fungal-prone areas and spots that stay damp like between the toes, and blemish-prone skin, including individual blemishes.
A targeted balm, not an all-over moisturizer. Because it carries bentonite clay and zinc oxide, the finish is slightly drier and more protective than a classic tallow balm. Use a small amount right where you need it.
A note on who this isn't for. Skin Rescue contains tamanu oil and tea tree and lavender essential oils, so I don't recommend it for babies, or during pregnancy unless you've checked with your provider. For a gentle, fragrance-free option, Bare Balm is just tallow and castor oil.
The experience
Rich but never greasy. The clay and zinc give it a slightly drier, more protective finish that sits over the skin like a shield rather than soaking in fast. That's intentional, targeted skin usually does better with something that stays put.
The scent is herbaceous and clean, with a fresh, medicinal-forward note from the tea tree softened by a whisper of lavender. It smells purposeful, like something that's there to help.
What's inside, and why it matters
Grass-fed beef tallow
The emollient, barrier-supporting base. Tallow gives the balm its richness and staying power and helps dry, irritated-feeling skin feel protected and comfortable.
One of this balm's signature rescue botanicals. Plantain is traditionally reached for on itchy, reactive, bug-bitten and irritated-feeling skin, and it's a big part of what sets Skin Rescue apart from an ordinary moisturizing salve.
A gentle, time-honored botanical for dry, reactive, compromised-feeling skin. It balances the more active ingredients with soft, soothing plant support.
A rich, restorative oil traditionally prized for the look of blemish-prone, irritated and fungal-prone skin. It gives the balm its more intensive, hard-working character. Tamanu is pressed from the seed of a tropical tree and is treated as a tree nut oil.
Gives the balm structure and lays down a light, breathable protective layer over the skin so the botanicals can stay where you put them.
Bentonite clay + non-nano zinc oxide
The pair that makes this a rescue balm rather than a moisturizer. Bentonite gives the drier, less greasy finish that's welcome where skin runs damp or oily, and helps it double as a targeted spot balm. Zinc adds a soothing, protective mineral veil that's especially at home on irritated, chafed, red-looking or compromised-feeling skin.
Your ritual
Apply a small amount to clean, dry skin and gently massage over the area that needs it. Use as needed.
Fungal-prone areas (like between the toes): wash and dry the skin thoroughly first, then apply a very thin layer, taking care to avoid trapping excess moisture.
Blemishes: dab a very small amount directly onto the individual spot.
Bug bites, itchy patches, contact irritation, or dry, red areas: apply a small amount directly to the affected skin and repeat as needed.
What to expect
First use: skin feels cushioned and protected, with a drier, more matte finish than a typical balm.
As you use it: itchy, irritated or reactive-feeling spots tend to feel calmer and more comfortable once the balm has had time to sit and do its work.
Over time: it becomes the balm that lives in your bag or bathroom drawer, the one you reach for the moment something flares up.
If anything feels off at any point, patch test first and discontinue if irritation occurs.
Honest answers to common questions
How is this different from an everyday balm?
Skin Rescue is the targeted, "grab this when your skin is acting up" balm, not an all-over moisturizer. It's more concentrated, has a drier and more protective finish, and is meant for small areas that need extra support rather than daily face-and-body use.
Can I use it on my face?
Yes, as a targeted spot balm for blemish-prone skin, dabbed onto individual blemishes rather than spread across the whole face. For everyday facial moisture, reach for one of our gentler balms instead.
Is it greasy?
Less than you'd expect. The bentonite clay and zinc give it a drier, more protective finish, which is part of why it works well on areas that tend to stay damp.
Can I use it on children or during pregnancy?
I don't recommend it for babies, because it contains tamanu oil and tea tree and lavender essential oils. During pregnancy or nursing, please check with your provider first. For little ones or a fragrance-free option, reach for Bare Balm instead.
I have a tree nut allergy. Can I use it?
Please skip this one. Tamanu oil is pressed from the seed of a tropical tree and is treated as a tree nut oil. Bare Balm is tallow and castor oil only, with no nut-derived ingredients.
Is it okay for broken skin?
Do not apply to open or broken skin. Skin Rescue is made for irritated, reactive and compromised-feeling skin, but not skin that is actively open. Avoid eyes and mucous membranes, and do not use inside the ear canal.
