What it is
Tamanu oil comes from the nuts of the tamanu tree, which grows along the coasts of Southeast Asia, Polynesia, and parts of East Africa. The nuts are dried in the sun for weeks until they turn from green to deep golden brown, and only then will they release their thick, dark green oil. The oil is so distinctive it is sometimes called green gold by the cultures that have used it for centuries.
Why we use it
Polynesian cultures have used tamanu for generations on skin that needs serious care. Sailors’ faces, fishermen’s hands, mothers nursing through cracked skin, the kind of skin that has weathered the world. We use it for the same reason. Tamanu is a rich, deep oil with a presence you can feel. A little goes a long way, and what you put on stays where you put it.
