Sea Buckthorn Oil

The Ingredient Library · Botanical & Seed Oils

What it is

Sea buckthorn is a hardy orange berry that grows on a thorny shrub native to the cold, dry mountain regions of Asia and Europe. The berries are so vivid orange they look almost unreal, and they are packed with naturally occurring beta-carotene, the same compound that gives carrots and pumpkins their color. The oil extracted from the berries is so deeply pigmented it can stain skin and fabric if used carelessly.

Why we use it

For warmth. A few drops of sea buckthorn in a balm turns the whole jar slightly golden, both in color and in the feeling on skin. It is summer-warm in oil form. Worth using only in formulas where that warm-golden quality is the whole point.

What it offers your skin

A naturally rich orange tone to body balms designed for golden-hour radiance. A traditional companion for the look of dry, sun-loved skin. A whisper of summer in a jar.
