What it is

Bakuchiol (say it “bah-KOO-chee-all”) is a plant compound from the seeds of the babchi plant, used in Ayurvedic tradition for centuries. In modern skincare it has earned a reputation as the gentle botanical counterpart to retinol — studied for similar effects on the look of skin, without the dryness and sensitivity retinol is famous for.

Why we use it

Many of the women we serve have tried retinol and made peace with the trade-off: smoother-looking skin in exchange for flaking, stinging, and sun sensitivity. Bakuchiol asks for no such bargain. It is gentle enough for evening use on changing skin, plays beautifully with our botanical oils, and fits our deepest formulation belief — that effective and gentle are not opposites.

What it offers your skin

Support for the look of smoother texture and more even tone, with continued use over weeks. A gentler experience than retinol, with no known sun-sensitizing effect. And true-to-our-line compatibility: it lives happily in a water-free, oil-based serum, sealed in by tallow.
