Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About Our Products

What makes Radiant Roots different from other skincare brands?

Every Radiant Roots formula is handcrafted in small batches with ingredients you can pronounce and trust. We don't use synthetic fragrances, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, fillers, or hidden chemicals. Our foundation ingredient is grass-finished tallow, a nutrient-rich substance paired with intentional botanicals. We believe skincare should be made with care, not made for shelves.

Where are your products made?

Every product is handcrafted by me, Jana, in small batches in McKinney, Texas.

Are your products natural and clean?

Yes. Every Radiant Roots formula is made with whole-food, plant-based, and ancestral ingredients. We never use synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, mineral oil, or fillers. Each ingredient is chosen with intention.

Why tallow?

Tallow is one of the most nutrient-rich skincare ingredients. Grass-finished tallow contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, plus the same fatty acids that are present in our skin's natural lipid layer. That biological match is part of why tallow absorbs so well and leaves skin feeling soft, hydrated, and nourished. It's ancestral, sustainable, and gentle on most skin types.

Do you use essential oils?

Yes, in some formulas, always at safe dilutions and chosen for their aromatic qualities. Some of our products contain no essential oils at all. Our Bare Balm is fully unscented and our gentlest formula.

Choosing What's Right For You

Where should I start if I'm new to Radiant Roots?

The Nourishing Tallow Balm is the product most new customers start with. It's our foundation balm, made with grass-finished tallow, frankincense, and a few simple botanicals. It comes in a 2 oz and a 4 oz size. Most people start with the 2 oz to try it before they commit.

If you'd rather try several products at once, the Radiant Ritual Essentials bundle pairs the Nourishing Tallow Balm with our Radiant Renewal Serum and is our most popular two-product set.

What do you recommend for dry skin?

The Nourishing Tallow Balm is the most popular choice for dry skin. It's a rich balm built around grass-finished tallow and frankincense. For body, the Rose Glow Body Butter is a whipped tallow butter with a soft botanical rose scent that many customers prefer all over.

If you want a complete face routine, the Radiant Ritual Essentials bundle pairs the Nourishing Tallow Balm with the Radiant Renewal Serum and is what Jana uses on herself morning and night.

What do you recommend for sensitive skin?

Bare Balm is our gentlest formula. It has only two ingredients: grass-fed tallow and castor oil. No essential oils, no botanical infusions, no scent. It's suitable for newborns and for adults with reactive skin.

If you'd like something with a soft scent and a slightly richer texture, the Rose Glow Body Butter is also well-tolerated by many sensitive-skin customers.

What do you recommend for thinner or more delicate skin?

Radiant Restore is the balm formulated for skin that's thinner or more delicate. It's a rich balm with grass-fed tallow, jojoba, arnica and calendula infusions, tamanu and rosehip seed oils. Many customers use it on areas where the skin feels especially fragile.

It comes in a 2 oz and a 4 oz size. As with any new product, patch test first if you haven't used Radiant Roots before.

What do you recommend for the under-eye area?

The Radiant Awakening Under-Eye Serum is made specifically for the under-eye area. It's a lightweight oil serum with squalane, jojoba, castor, rosehip seed, and green coffee oil, plus a small amount of calming botanicals at eye-safe dilution.

A small tip: many customers store the bottle in the refrigerator for an extra-cool morning application.

What do you recommend for hair and scalp care?

The Radiant Root Hair + Scalp Serum is our scalp oil. It's a lightweight blend of pumpkin seed, black seed, carrot seed, castor, squalane, and jojoba oils, with rosemary and peppermint essential oils for an invigorating sensory experience.

Most customers apply 5 to 10 drops directly to the scalp 3 to 5 nights per week and massage in. A tiny amount can also be smoothed through the ends of the hair.

What do you recommend for daily face moisturizing?

The Nourishing Tallow Balm is our most-recommended daily face moisturizer. Warm a small amount between your fingertips and press it into damp skin after cleansing.

For evening, many customers layer it over our Radiant Renewal Serum (the serum first, then the balm pressed over it on damp skin). The Radiant Ritual Essentials bundle pairs these two together at a slight savings.

What's the difference between the Nourishing Tallow Balm and Radiant Restore?

Both are tallow-based balms, but they're formulated differently for different needs.

The Nourishing Tallow Balm is our foundation balm. It's built around grass-finished tallow, frankincense, and methylene blue. It's the one most new customers start with and is suitable for general daily use on the face.

Radiant Restore is a richer balm formulated for thinner or more delicate skin. It contains grass-fed tallow, jojoba, arnica and calendula infusions, tamanu and rosehip seed oils, helichrysum, frankincense, and sandalwood.

If you're not sure which is right for you, email Jana at jana@radiantrootwellness.com and she'll personally help you decide.

What's the difference between the Radiant Renewal Serum and the Radiant Awakening Eye Serum?

The Radiant Renewal Serum is for the face overall. It's a botanical oil serum with bakuchiol, squalane, jojoba, rosehip seed oil, blue tansy, bisabolol, and frankincense. Used in the evening, pressed into clean skin before a balm.

The Radiant Awakening Under-Eye Serum is made specifically for the under-eye area. It's a lighter-weight oil serum with squalane, jojoba, castor, rosehip, and green coffee oil, plus calming botanicals at eye-safe dilution. Applied morning and evening by gentle tapping along the orbital bone.

Both can be used in the same routine. Apply the eye serum first, then the Renewal Serum for the rest of the face.

Which bundle should I buy?

If you're new to Radiant Roots and want the full experience, The Complete Radiant Ritual is the best place to start. It's a four-product set: Radiant Reset cleanser, Radiant Awakening Eye Serum, Radiant Renewal Serum, and your choice of Nourishing Tallow Balm or Radiant Restore.

If you want a smaller starter, the Radiant Ritual Essentials bundle pairs the Nourishing Tallow Balm with the Radiant Renewal Serum and is our most popular two-product set.

The Clear Skin Ritual pairs our Radiant Reset cleanser with the Radiant Clear balm.

If you'd like help choosing, email Jana at jana@radiantrootwellness.com.

What is safe for me to use during pregnancy?

Bare Balm is our gentlest formula and is safe during pregnancy. It contains only grass-fed tallow and castor oil.

Some of our other formulas contain ingredients (like bakuchiol or specific essential oils) that we recommend pausing during pregnancy unless cleared by your healthcare provider. The Radiant Renewal Serum, Radiant Awakening Eye Serum, and any product with methylene blue or essential oil blends fall into this category.

If you're pregnant or nursing, please email Jana at jana@radiantrootwellness.com and she will personally help you find the right products for this season.

What's the best Radiant Roots product for the whole family?

Bare Balm is our gentlest and most family-friendly formula. It contains only grass-fed tallow and castor oil, with no essential oils or scent. It's suitable for newborns and for adults with sensitive skin.

The Rose Glow Body Butter is also a good choice for whole-family body use, with a soft botanical rose scent and a whipped tallow texture.

For older children and teens, most of our balms are well-tolerated for most skin types. Please patch test before first use.

Ingredients & Safety

Are your products safe during pregnancy?

Several of our products are pregnancy-friendly, including Bare Balm. Some of our other formulas contain ingredients (like bakuchiol or specific essential oils) that we recommend pausing during pregnancy unless cleared by your healthcare provider. If you're pregnant or nursing, please reach out and I'll personally help you find the right products for this season.

Are your products safe for babies and children?

Bare Balm is our gentlest formula and is suitable for newborns. For older children and teens, most of our balms are well-tolerated for most skin types. Please patch test first and reach out with any specific concerns.

What if I have sensitive skin or allergies?

Always patch test before first use. Apply a small amount to the inside of your wrist or behind your ear and wait 24 hours. If you have known allergies (especially to nuts, beef tallow, or specific essential oils), please review the full ingredient list on each product page or message me directly. I'm happy to help you find the right fit.

What is methylene blue and why is it in some of your products?

Methylene blue is an ingredient we include at a low cosmetic dilution in select formulas. It produces a soft blue tint that absorbs cleanly into the skin and does not stain. If you're new to the ingredient or have questions about it, patch test first and reach out before using.

Are your products vegan?

Our tallow-based products are not vegan, as tallow is an animal-derived ingredient. We do offer several plant-based formulas, including our Radiant Awakening Eye Serum and Radiant Renewal Serum. Look for the “Vegan” label on individual product pages.

Are your products tested on animals?

Never. We do not test on animals, and we don't partner with anyone who does.

How to Use

What order should I apply my products?

The general rule is thinnest to thickest. Cleanse first with Radiant Reset, then apply serums (Radiant Renewal Serum, Radiant Awakening Eye Serum), and finish by sealing everything in with a balm like Nourishing Tallow Balm. For the full four-step Radiant Ritual: Reset, Awaken, Renew, Nourish.

How much should I use?

Less is more with our products, especially the balms and serums. For balms, a pea-sized amount is usually plenty for the face. For serums, 2 to 5 drops is a good starting point. Warm the product between clean fingertips and press it into damp skin for the best absorption.

Can I use Radiant Roots products with my other skincare?

Yes, in most cases. Our products layer well with other clean skincare. We do recommend pausing strong actives (like prescription retinoids, glycolic acid peels, or harsh exfoliants) when introducing bakuchiol-based products to avoid irritation. If you're unsure, message me and I'll help you build a routine.

How long until I see results?

Most customers notice softer, more hydrated-feeling skin within the first few days. Changes in the appearance of tone, texture, and fine lines typically take 4 to 8 weeks of consistent use to become visible. Changes take time. Trust the rhythm.

How should I store my products?

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For best longevity, keep balms below 75°F. Our Radiant Awakening Eye Serum can be stored in the refrigerator for a cool morning application. If a balm softens or melts in warm temperatures, place it in the fridge for a few minutes to firm it back up. The formula is unaffected.

What's the shelf life of your products?

Most of our anhydrous (oil-based) formulas have a shelf life of 12 to 18 months unopened, and 6 to 12 months once opened. Always discard if you notice changes in scent, color, or texture.

Good to Know

Will the balm melt during shipping in warm weather?

Tallow-based balms can soften or partially melt in temperatures above 75°F, which is common during summer shipping. The formula is unaffected. If your balm arrives soft, place the jar in the refrigerator for a few minutes to firm it back up. The texture and quality are the same.

We pack orders with care and ship within 2 to 4 business days, but we can't control the temperature once the package leaves us.

Will the balm stain my clothes, sheets, or pillowcase?

Tallow balms are oil-based, so they can leave a small oily mark on fabric if applied generously right before contact. The mark usually washes out with regular laundry.

If you're using the balm on your face overnight, give it 10 to 15 minutes to absorb before lying down. A small amount goes a long way.

The methylene blue in our Nourishing Tallow Balm absorbs cleanly into the skin and does not stain.

Why is the Nourishing Tallow Balm blue?

The soft blue tint comes from methylene blue, an ingredient we include at a low cosmetic dilution. The blue absorbs cleanly into the skin and does not stain.

If you're new to the ingredient or have questions about it, patch test first. If you prefer to avoid methylene blue, our Bare Balm is the no-essential-oil, no-methylene-blue version of our foundation formula.

How long does a jar of balm typically last?

Most face users get 6 to 8 weeks out of a 2 oz jar of balm with daily use. A 4 oz body balm typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks with head-to-toe use.

The shelf life of most of our oil-based balms is 12 to 18 months unopened, and 6 to 12 months once opened. Always discard if you notice changes in scent, color, or texture.

What if I have a reaction or the product doesn't work for me?

Skin is unique and sometimes a balm that's perfect for one person isn't the right match for another. If you notice an unexpected reaction or the product isn't right for you, please reply to your order confirmation email or message Jana directly at jana@radiantrootwellness.com.

Because our products are handcrafted in small batches and used directly on the skin, we can't accept returns on opened items, but Jana will personally work with you to find a solution.

If your order hasn't shipped yet, yes. Please email me as soon as possible and I'll do my best to accommodate changes.

Do you offer wholesale or bulk orders?

Yes. If you're a spa, boutique, or wellness shop interested in carrying Radiant Roots, please email me directly to discuss wholesale opportunities.

Bundles & Rituals

What is the Radiant Ritual?

The Radiant Ritual is our signature four-step skincare rhythm: Reset (cleanse without stripping), Awaken (refresh the eyes), Renew (an evening serum with bakuchiol and blue tansy), and Nourish (a final balm of nutrient-rich tallow). Each step pairs with the next.

Which bundle is right for me?

If you're new to Radiant Roots and want the full experience, The Complete Radiant Ritual is the best place to start. The Radiant Ritual Essentials bundle pairs our Nourishing Tallow Balm with the Radiant Renewal Serum and is our most popular two-product set. Still unsure? Message me. I love helping people find the right fit.

Can I customize a bundle?

Absolutely. If you'd like to mix products from different bundles or build a custom set, email me and we'll make it happen.
