What it is
Methylene blue is a vivid, deep-blue compound first synthesized in the late 1800s and used in everything from biology labs to traditional wellness practices ever since. In our work, a single trace drop in a jar of balm gives the formula its signature soft blue whisper. It is also a notable antioxidant on its own, which is partly why we include it.
Why we use it
For two reasons. The color, which is what makes our signature balm visually distinctive on a shelf or a vanity. And the antioxidant character it lends the formula, which contributes to the balm staying fresh and stable in jars that contain only animal fat and plant oils, no synthetic preservatives.
What it offers your skin
A notable antioxidant presence in trace amount. A signature color that says this is our balm. Part of why our Nourishing Tallow Balm has such a long jar life despite being preservative-free.
