Calendula

The Ingredient Library · Botanicals

What it is

Calendula is the common marigold — bright orange petals that cottage gardens have grown for centuries, as much for the apothecary shelf as for beauty. We use it the slow way: whole dried petals steeped in oil for weeks, until the oil itself turns the color of late-afternoon sun and carries the flower's character with it.

Why we use it

Some ingredients are chemistry; calendula is patience. The slow infusion draws out the petals' lipid-loving compounds in their whole, traditional form — no extraction shortcuts. It is the ingredient we reach for when skin is tender, fragile, or simply asks to be treated gently, which is why it anchors the balm we made for the most delicate skin in the family's care.

What it offers your skin

Gentle comfort for skin that feels stressed or tender. A traditional companion for fragile, mature skin on hands, neck, and chest. Softness without heaviness, and a heritage of trust that spans generations of kitchen-table skincare.
