The Simplest Skincare Routine for Women Over 50
The short answer: three steps in the evening, two in the morning, and not one product more. Past 50, skin does better with a short routine done faithfully than an elaborate one done sometimes — and the ten-step regimens filling your feed were never designed for mature skin in the first place.
Why simpler wins after 50
Mature skin is drier, a little thinner, and slower to forgive irritation — which means every additional product is another chance to strip, sting, or interfere with the step before it. Layering five waters-and-actives onto skin that struggles to hold moisture is like watering a garden during a wind storm. The skill isn't adding; it's sequencing: clean gently, signal once, seal well.
The whole routine
Evening — three steps, five minutes:
- Cleanse gently. Nothing foaming or squeaky. A soft option: Radiant Reset, an oat-and-clay powder you awaken with water.
- One signal. A few drops of a gentle active over clean skin — ours is bakuchiol in the Renewal Serum, the botanical counterpart to retinol without the harshness mature skin can't spare.
- Seal it in. While skin is still damp, press in a rich, skin-compatible balm — grass-fed tallow is ours, for reasons we explain here.
Morning — two steps, two minutes: rinse or cleanse lightly, then a thin press of the same balm over damp skin. If tired eyes are your morning story, one cold drop of an eye serum kept in the fridge is the best ninety seconds in skincare.

What you can stop doing
Permission, freely given: stop the ten-step nights. Stop scrubbing — mature skin polishes itself best when it's comfortable. Stop chasing whatever ingredient is loud this month. And stop feeling behind — the women with the skin you admire at 60 are almost never doing more; they're doing less, daily, for years.
