Comfort Balm

A calming barrier balm for very dry, itchy, reactive skin, including the kind of persistent dryness and sensitivity that often arrives in midlife.

Who it's for

For skin that has stopped feeling like your own. The kind that pulls after showering, feels tight through the day, and wakes you at 2 a.m. because your legs or arms are itching again. If your skin feels dry, delicate, easily bothered, or more reactive than it used to be, Comfort Balm was built for you.

Especially made for the skin changes many women notice in midlife. As estrogen naturally shifts through perimenopause and menopause, skin often produces less oil, holds less moisture, and becomes more vulnerable to dryness, tightness, and irritation. Products you have used for years can suddenly feel like too much. Your skin can feel less resilient, more easily overwhelmed. That shift is real. This balm was made for it.

Also for anyone with dry, delicate, or easily irritated skin at any age. Dry patches through the winter. Skin that reacts to almost everything. Areas that feel stripped after a long shower. Comfort Balm is built to sit over that kind of skin and help it feel quieted, protected, and cared for.

Made to stay where you put it, sitting over the skin like a soft protective layer rather than soaking in right away. That is intentional. Reactive skin often needs something to stay with it, not something that vanishes in 30 seconds.

A note on who this isn't for. Comfort Balm contains tamanu oil and helichrysum essential oil, so I don't recommend it for babies, or during pregnancy unless you have checked with your provider. If you want something for the whole family, Bare Balm is just tallow and castor oil with nothing else added.

The experience

Thick, creamy, and salve-like, with the kind of texture that stays where you place it. Comfort Balm is made for targeted, sustained support, not a barely-there finish.

The scent is softly earthy and herbaceous, with a clean, subtle warmth from the botanicals. The feel is cushioned and quieted. Skin that feels shielded rather than exposed.

What's inside, and why it matters for dry, reactive skin

Grass-fed beef tallow

The skin-compatible foundation of the balm. Tallow is naturally rich in the same fatty acids your own skin makes, which is part of why it feels so recognizable to dry, depleted skin. It helps replenish lost lipids, soften extremely dry areas, and form a protective layer that slows moisture loss. When skin has stopped holding on to what it needs, tallow gives it something to hold on to.

Colloidal oat flour (colloidal oatmeal)

A hero here. Colloidal oatmeal has a well-established place in skincare for dry, itchy, irritated-feeling skin, and for supporting the skin barrier. It brings that soft, quieting feel that comforts skin on edge. If you have ever soaked in an oat bath and felt your skin exhale, this is the same idea in a balm. For midlife dryness and reactive skin, this ingredient carries a lot of the comfort.

Borage seed oil

One of the highest natural sources of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), an essential fatty acid your skin uses to help maintain a strong, resilient barrier. That makes borage particularly meaningful for dry, stressed, easily overwhelmed skin, and for skin that has started to feel like it needs more support than it used to.

Calendula flower

A traditional soothing botanical long used in skincare for delicate, tender, easily bothered skin. Calendula brings the herbal side of the formula, offering the kind of gentle plant support irritated-feeling skin tends to welcome.

Jojoba seed oil

A lightweight, skin-compatible oil that closely resembles skin's own sebum. Jojoba brings moisture without heaviness and helps carry the other ingredients into the outer layers of the skin where they can do their work. A gentle, well-tolerated companion for reactive skin.

Non-nano zinc oxide + bisabolol

A calming pair for vulnerable skin. Zinc creates a breathable protective veil that gives dry, tender areas somewhere to rest. Bisabolol (from chamomile) helps soothe the look of redness, surface heat, and tender dry patches. Together they take the edge off skin that feels overexposed.

Tamanu oil

A rich, restorative oil pressed from the seed of a tropical tree. Tamanu is included for the deeper botanical comfort it brings to reactive, uncomfortable skin. It is part of why Comfort Balm feels as protective as it does. Please note tamanu is considered a tree nut oil.

Helichrysum italicum oil

A precious botanical known as "everlasting" or "immortelle." Included for the way it supports the look of calmer, more settled skin when redness and irritation have overstayed their welcome. It is an essential oil, which is why Comfort Balm is made for grown-up skin rather than the very youngest.

Your ritual

Apply a generous layer to areas that feel dry, tight, itchy, or in need of extra comfort. Rather than rubbing in completely, let the balm rest over the skin like a protective veil. Especially lovely after a lukewarm bath or shower, before bed on itchy legs or arms, during seasonal shifts, or anytime skin feels reactive and needs quieting.

For midlife dryness that shows up at night, apply a thicker layer before bed and let it stay on. Skin has time to drink it in slowly.

What to expect

First use: Skin feels cushioned and immediately less exposed. The finish is richer and more protective than a standard balm.

First several uses: Dry, itchy, or reactive areas tend to feel more comfortable and less on edge. The tight, dry feeling that shows up at night often eases. Skin holds moisture longer.

Longer term: With consistent use, skin that has felt easily overwhelmed often feels more settled, more comfortable, and better able to stay soft through weather changes, stress, and the shifts of midlife. This is where Comfort Balm earns its name.

If anything feels off at any point, patch test first and discontinue if irritation occurs.

Honest answers to common questions

Is this helpful for perimenopause or menopause skin changes?

Yes, this is one of the products I most often recommend for it. Many women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s quietly notice their skin has changed. It feels drier, tighter, more reactive, less resilient. That shift is real, and it happens because estrogen supports skin's ability to produce oil, hold moisture, and stay comfortable. As estrogen naturally shifts in midlife, skin often needs more nourishment and more barrier support to feel like itself. Comfort Balm was built for exactly this kind of skin.

Is this more of a balm or a salve?

Comfort Balm leans salve-like in feel. It is intentionally thick and designed to stay in place so dry, reactive skin gets longer-lasting support.

Should I rub it in all the way?

Not necessarily. For maximum comfort, let it sit over the skin like a soft protective layer rather than massaging it in completely right away.

Can I use this on children or sensitive skin?

It was made with delicate, easily bothered skin in mind, and it suits most adults and older children well. I don't recommend it for babies, because it contains tamanu oil and helichrysum essential oil. For little ones, reach for Bare Balm instead. Patch test first if your skin reacts easily or you are working around a known sensitivity.

Is it safe during pregnancy or nursing?

Comfort Balm contains helichrysum essential oil, so I would check with your provider first. If you would rather not think about it, Bare Balm has no essential oils at all, and Radiant Restore is the one mamas reach for most.

I have a tree nut allergy. Can I use it?

Please skip this one. Tamanu oil is pressed from the seed of a tropical tree and is treated as a tree nut oil. Bare Balm is tallow and castor oil only, with no nut-derived ingredients.

Is it okay for broken skin?

Do not apply to open wounds. This balm is meant for dry, reactive, easily bothered skin, but not skin that is actively open.
